Ifra Publications Chooses Control Tower
"It is critical that we have a simple, effective planning and budgeting tool to manage our newsflow. Control Tower seems perfectly suited for our needs." - Dean Roper, Editor in Chief, Ifra Publications
Proxim-IT is pleased to announce that Ifra, the world’s leading association for newspaper and media publishing, will be using Control Tower to manage its editorial operations.
Starting in December 2004, Control Tower will be used as the central story management and planning tool at Ifra’s newshandling activities worldwide.
The installation is a vital step towards what Kerry J. Northrup, Ifra’s editorial director, describes as “the smart newsroom.”
Ifra publications plans to enhance its flagship print-online publication "newspaper techniques" to provide an even more multidimensional news and information service to the publishing industry. Introducing video, audio and mobile content as well as real-time coverage of events and a wider range of story angles will demand a much more extensive and robust editorial process.
“There is a need for a tool that helps to manage a large amount of information and an increasingly complex newsflow,” says Northrup, “Control Tower captures key status data of developing stories and their scheduled distribution ensuring a maximum level of awareness among our editorial staff.”
Dean Roper, Ifra Publications' editor in chief, added, "While our overall strategy of delivering quality, focused multimedia content to our readers might sound complex and challenging, quite simply this all begins with the story and the many facets associated with the story.
"How can we help answer the key questions our readers have on a certain topic? And how and when can we best deliver these answers? Would this story be told best with a simple audio/video interview on our web site? Does it require a deeper analysis in our magazine? Should we send an email flash or SMS flash to alert them about this? How can we best illustrate and present this story? Perhaps it is a combination of all these.
"Regardless, it requires a real paradigm shift in our mindset. As Kerry likes to say, we need to 'fly at 30,000 feet,' i.e. have a more broad overview of the story. To do this, it is critical that we have a simple, effective planning and budgeting tool to manage our newsflow. Control Tower seems perfectly suited for our needs."
Proxim-IT’s managing director Joan Weibel said, “It is because of Ifra’s unrivalled experience and world-renowned expertise that Proxim-IT is doubly proud that it has chosen Control Tower to manage its publishing strategy. Every company welcomes new installations – but a vote of confidence from the media industry’s leading research and consulting organisation is even more cause for celebration.”
