About Proxim-IT
This decade has seen enormous changes in the media industry. While many of the changes have been driven by new technology, media companies have succeeded or failed on their ability to adapt to the changing demands of their consumers.
Today's consumer demands greater relevance and access to regularly updated, interactive content.
The media industry has already started to respond to consumers: Companies have expanded their operations to offer consumers stories in newspapers, on the internet and on radio.
These efforts have ushered in the age of the convergent newsroom.
The possibilities raised by newsrooms which produce content for a variety of media come with a set of new challenges. Meeting consumer needs in a cost-effective manner requires a much higher level of collaboration and information sharing within the newsroom: Just as technological innovation has brought journalists closer to their readers, further innovation is required to assist news production teams work in closer proximity - even when they may be operating in different countries.
Everyone agrees that to be successful, newsrooms will use content more effectively and allocate resources with maximum knowledge and efficiency. But the next question - "How do we get there?" - remains largely unanswered.
Proxim-IT's mission is to help you answer that question.
Proxim-IT has worked closely with journalists and newsroom managers in the creation of organisational solutions for the news media industry since 1997. We worked on the cutting edge of technological innovation, while keeping our products firmly based within the world of journalists and editors.
Proxim-IT's founders created the world's first web-based system allowing news editors to tap into a global network of freelance professional journalists.
We have observed how newsrooms operate and organise news coverage; how editors issue assignments to local and international journalists; how managers endeavour to encourage brainstorming, idea sharing, and the best use of newsroom experience; how editors often struggle to balance the needs of their traditional medium with the new demands of multiple-media distribution.
We concluded that nothing on the market addressed the most crucial current and future needs of the newsroom - and we believe we found an answer to the question we posed above.
The answer has three steps:
  • Get a clear vision of the ebb and flow of newsroom staff availability and events and stories as they unfold
  • Encourage collaboration of the combined and concentrated expertise of news staff
  • Give ready access to all background information making critical management of assignments easier.
Proxim-IT's background of working with newsrooms has nurtured a unique understanding of the practical needs and working habits of content production teams. This has given us the experience and know-how to make intricate, useable, work-enhancing solutions for today's newsrooms.
